Ahmedabad, June 12, 2025 – What began as a routine international flight turned into a national tragedy today, an Air India Dreamliner carrying 242 people crashed just after departure from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, transforming what started off as a routine national tragedy today.
Shortly after liftoff, the aeroplane headed for London dropped from the heavens and landed in the middle of a residential neighbourhood close to Meghani Nagar. Families who had just bid farewell to their loved ones are now clutching the worst sort of hope—one that whispers the impossible: survival in the face of catastrophe.
A City Broken
The sound of sirens and screams replaced the noise of jet engines at 1:43 PM. Before plunging into a hostel building at B.J. Medical College, the Boeing 787 slashed across the air. The flight carried seven Portuguese, one Canadian citizen, 169 Indians, and 53 British nationals. Their one goal was to get somewhere—for business, reunion, education, or dreams—and it bonded them all.
Aisha Khan, 25, a British traveler, was apparently on her way to see her fiancé in London. Just before flight, she had messaged her mother, saying “See you soon, Mum. Good bye. That message today sounds like a farewell.
A Nation Mourns India is in shock. Saying the tragedy was “heartbreaking beyond words,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged quick support for the families of victims. Grieving is flooding in from all around. Both King Charles III and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer sent sympathies.
What Made It Happened?
Initial findings indicate engine failure or mechanical malfunction even though researchers from India’s AAIB and DGCA are still gathering data. Recoverable black boxes are now under examination with Boeing and GE Aerospace.
